Outreach Programs
We organize community service activities that include visiting K-12 education institutions in urban and poor areas to promote math, science and engineering as a career choice. In the past we have held tutoring and mentorship programs at Gompers Secondary School in San Diego, California. We hope to continue this activity. This summer NSBE has teamed up with SPAWAR to introduce material world modules science projects and other outreach activities to Gompers Middle School, Point Loma High and St. Mary's. Other NSBE outreach programs, which include Pre collegiate initiatives, and Junior NSBE member outreach is in need of funding which will be used to purchase project supplies for hands-on activities and offset mileage expenses for members who volunteer to drive to the school sites.
Professional Development Workshops on Campus
These are on campus workshops and seminars that we will be hosting throughout the year. The goals of these workshops and seminars are to have industry representatives come and educate members through presentations on topics like time management, resumes writing, professional conduct and attitude.
Africa Day
Cultural events are conferences and concerts that stimulate awareness about our origins, and our struggles to develop and achieve our goals. This year, we invited one of the Lost Boys from Sudan to speak on the history of the Sudan conflict. There was live music performance and a fashion show to celebrate African traditions and attire.
End of the Year NSBE-UCSD Banquet
We will have an end of year banquet to recognize and encourage our members, personally thank our sponsors and supporters and congratulate our graduates.
